First time registering, or switching funds?
If you register for the first time as the main member, there's no waiting period: you're covered immediately. If you want to switch funds, you must have been registered for at least 1 year at your current fund, paid your contributions, and have no outstanding debts. The switch takes effect at the start of the next quarter, with about 1 month processing time. Switching involves no costs or penalties.
Without registration, you pay everything yourself
If you're not registered with a health insurance fund, you have no medical coverage. A consultation, examination, or hospital stay costs you entirely out of pocket. For supplementary coverage, such as dental care or hospital insurance, a separate rule applies: if you don't pay the fee for 24 to 36 months, you can be excluded from that supplementary cover for up to 2 years.
