Not every file fits into a category

Some administrative matters don't follow a fixed process like tax or child benefits. A letter from an unknown agency, a form with unclear questions, a file stuck somewhere : it all falls under general administration. Precisely because it's so varied, you often don't know where to start.

Ignoring a letter solves nothing

Not collecting a registered letter doesn't change the deadline stated in it. If the postman doesn't find you at home, failing to collect within the set period counts as a refusal to receive. The letter is considered received on the date the postman presented it. The deadline runs from that date, not from when you actually read it.

Example: Sophie is away for a few days when a registered letter from a government agency is delivered to her home. She doesn't collect the letter from the post office within the deadline. When she finally reads the letter, the response deadline has already passed, because it started from the day the postman called.

Important: not collecting a registered letter doesn't stop the deadline. It just keeps running, even if you don't yet know what's inside.
