When can you request a payment arrangement?

Do you receive a tax assessment or social contribution invoice you can't pay on time? You can then request a payment arrangement. For taxes, you do this with the Federal Public Service Finance; for social contributions, with your social security fund. Request the arrangement as soon as possible, because after the due date, an online request is no longer possible. If you request in time, you spread the debt over 8 months maximum.

Example:Sven requests his payment arrangement two weeks after his tax assessment due date. The fast online procedure is then no longer available, and he must reapply in writing. Amina thinks her arrangement for her VAT debt isn't a problem, but she has an old unpaid traffic fine still owed to the Federal Public Service Finance. As a result, her request is rejected immediately.

Interest keeps running

An approved payment arrangement does not stop the costs. Your outstanding debtaccrues default interest of 4% per year, even during the arrangement. The faster you pay off the debt, the less interest you pay. As long as you stick to the arrangement, the authorities cannot issue a enforcement notice or place a lien. If you miss a payment, the arrangement is cancelled and collection resumes immediately.

Important:an approved payment arrangement does not stop interest. It continues to accrue unless you separately request relief under strict conditions.

We monitor deadlines for you

A payment arrangement is not always the only option. Sometimes relief from contributions or interest is more beneficial. We review which option suits your situation best, request the right paperwork, and monitor every deadline afterwards. You don't have to track this yourself.
