Three regions, three competent authorities

In Flanders, you apply for the licence from the municipality of your operating seat. In Wallonia, it's not the municipality but the Regional authority itself that is competent. In Brussels, you submit your application to Brussels Mobility.A licence from one region is not automatically valid in another.

The licence itself, and your vehicle separately

In Flanders, the licence is called "individual paid passenger transport", or IPPT for short. It is personal, non-transferable and valid for 5 years. Brussels uses a unified status for street taxis and rank taxis, with an annual fee per vehicle. Besides the licence, your vehicle must also be separately registered with the DIV,with a special TX or TL number plate.

Important:anyone operating the profession without the required competence certificate risks a severe penalty. Operations are then refused for 6 months from the date of the infringement report.
